25^th Anniversary quilt

In celebration of our 25^th Anniversary my husband purposed that I make a quilt that we could both enjoy as we remembered our anniversary. On the day of our anniversary we drove to Eureka, CA and spent the night. We went to every quilt shop we could find on the way down. The plan was to buy only fat quarters to make this quilt out of.  Randy was to buy the bright and I was to buy the light. We agreed on Sharyn Craig’s log cabin plus block for the setting. Therefore we needed a solid color for the triangles. We both picked our favorite colors – Randy’s red, mine purple. Then Randy found the butterfly fabric and asked if we could some how work it in. That became the border and his base for picking the bright. When setting the blocks, I used the traditional barn raising setting but added in the 4 outer corners to represent our family, Randy and myself and our two sons, Zach and Joe.

It became very emotional for me to quilt it. The feathers and floral was something new I had just got comfortable with and felt it was perfect for this quilt along with the variegated threads I choose. In the lower right hand corner I personalized the quilt with the quilting. This gives it a special touch, as it will be a treasured heirloom for our family.
