Customer Quilts

I have been long arm quilting since 2001 and have developed my own style of quilting which is very free form and playful. I believe that the quilting should complement a quilt. Therefore I love to come up with  artistic quilting patterns that will do that. I prefer to use original designs rather than  templates or patterns. But I will use one if that is what the quilt calls for. I let the quilt top speak to me and I endeavor to listen. I strive to make every quilt as beautiful as possible and thrive on seeing it come to life.

Below you will find samples of different styles of quilting  that I have done. I have taken classes and/or been influenced by a number of people and would like to give them credit. Marilyn Badger, Pam Clarke, Dawn Cavanaugh, Kathy Olsen, Nichole Webb and Karen McTavish.

Free Form All Over -- an original design called feather and floral quilted from edge to edge over the entire quilt.

Free Form All Over
-- an original design called Shelley's Flower garden quilted from edge to edge
over the entire quilt

Custom Quilting -- This quilting technique was inspired by Karen McTavish and her book Mastering the Art of McTavishing. I called my version McKnapping out of respect for her. This quilting technique was done in the background allowing the color to pop. Free form pattern was done in the card trick blocks to give them some movement. Free spirit fern was done in the border to complement the pattern in the fabric.

Custom Quilting --  free spirit feathers and interlocking hearts.

Custom Quilting
-- Shelley's Flower garden was quilted in the background which allowed the hand appliqué to pop.
Customer Comments -- when I first saw Shelley's quilting at a shop in Canyonville, OR I knew that her style was perfect for this quilt.

Custom Quilting
-- This quilting technique was inspired by Karen McTavish and her book Mastering the Art of McTavishing. I called my version McKnapping out of respect for her. This quilting technique was done in the background. This quilt was made from Bank Bags and clothing labels. Very challenging to quilt.

Custom Quilting
-- free form style of quilting to complement the quilt.

Custom Quilting
-- sample of different styles of free form quilting that complement the quilt.
Customer Comments -- "Shelley's quilting enhances every area of this quilt, with specialized patterns and threads that improve but don't detract from the motifs.  To understate it, I'm very happy with it!"

Custom Quilting -- free form style of quilting that complemented the quilt.
Customer Comments -- I think you did a beautiful job on it .. You detailed each section of the quilt so well.  Everyone that has seen it raves about the quilting.

Custom Quilting
-- free spirit ferns were used on this quilt to give it movement.
Customer Comments --
"No one expects their long-arm quilter to be a mathematician, but this is what Shelley ended up having to be so that  the quilting flowed and moved your eye along in a restful, natural way."

Custom Quilting
-- bump echo echo was used in the background allowing the ladies to pop. I learned this quilting technique from Marilyn Badger.

Custom Quilting
-- McKnapping and bump echo echo quilting techniques were used in the background.
Customers Comment -- love the quilting, especially love Shelley choice of  thread with a shimmer to it.
