hand built Rose Engine Ornamental lathe.
It is a one of a kind, hand crafted spinning top made completely by
Randy Knapp of Knapp Studios and has no pre made or kit parts in it.
Each spinning top is signed.

Aluminator Spinning Tops
Modern
materials and high tech tools combine with old world craftsmanship to create
this spinning top. The
main body of the “Aluminator” is constructed of 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum. The
body of the spinning top is manually turned in a metal lathe. From there it goes
to the rose engine lathe where it receives its ornamentation. After that it is
hand polished to a high luster making it ready for anodizing and the color dye.
The final step for the body is a dip in a boiling solution of anodizing sealer.
A
complimentary wood inlay is chosen for the body and hand turned on a traditional
wood lathe. The brass spinning tip is turned in the metal lathe and then
ornamented in the rose engine lathe. The final step, the stem, is turned in
three different lathes, the metal lathe, the rose engine lathe and the
traditional wood lathe.
The weight and consistency
of the aluminum body with the lighter wood in the center of the spinning top
brings in the fly wheel affect by having most of the weight on the outer rim of
the spinning top. This allows for the spin time to be greatly increased.

Bodacious Brass
Spinning Tops
I went to a garage sale and came
across some nice brass stock. I figured if I increased the weight in the bottom
of the top it would spin longer. You know the object set in motion remains in
motion physic thing. It works plus it gives me a great place to put more
ornamentation on the brass. So I combine a simple body of beautiful exotic wood
with a bodacious brass bottom. The combo of wood and brass is a timeless
classic.

Tiny Dancer Spinning
Tops
I call these
spinning tops “Tiny Dancers”. My inspiration comes from ladies in beautiful
dresses as they gracefully spin on the dance floor. I hope you enjoy watching
these ladies dance for you. All "Tiny Dancers" are turned on my hand built rose
engine lathe and are signed. "Tiny Dancer" are easy to spin and are well balance
but don't expect them to spin as long as the smooth body spinning tops. The rose
engine turned stand is included with the "Tiny Dancer".
